The adungu can be played alone ( often with vocal accompaniment ) or in a set, both for personal fun and for concerts, therapeutic music or religious rituals. The physical shape of the adungu has African origins.

Technical description: Rectangular shaped body with tapered shoulders; skin sound-table with 2 circular sound-holes, diameter c 250; string attachment pierces through the sound-table. 7 strings. The’adungu, also called the ekidongo o ennenga, it’s a cordophone of the village alur from northwest of’Uganda. It is a harp of variable dimensions, being able to have seven to ten strings or more.

The physical shape of the adungu has African origins. The best known musical form is music adungu, however, is music that uses the diatonic scale of European classical music and has a great influence on the British presence in Uganda.
